AGROMIX launched its white paper<\/strong> <\/strong>\u201cTransforming European Food Systems with Agroforestry<\/a><\/strong>\u201d <\/strong>(PDF link) in Brussels on Thursday 24 October 2024.<\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The document outlined five key co-designed policy recommendations for the EU to maximise the implementation of agroforestry as part of its objective to secure a more sustainable, resilient, and equitable food system that meets the needs of present and future generations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Five key policy recommendations:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The classification of agroforestry land<\/strong> should be consistent across the EU,<\/strong> using a common set of criteria underpinned by the available databases.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Transformative agroforestry<\/strong> should be firmly embedded within a radically reformed CAP and mainstreamed<\/strong> across all relevant EU policies<\/strong>, providing investment along all stages of the agroforestry value chain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Robust, long-term financial rewards<\/strong> must be available for the planning, implementation and maintenance of diverse agroforestry systems,<\/strong> as well as for the ecosystem services<\/strong> they provide.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tree products and services from agroforestry systems<\/strong> should be firmly embedded within numerous value chains<\/strong> inside and outside of Europe with appropriate and accessible processing facilities that add value for farmers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Farmers, landowners and relevant decision-makers should<\/strong> be made familiar with \u2018transformative agroforestry\u2019 practices. This can be achieved with initiatives to support training and advisory services.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
